Road Trip to Lake Natron
Embark on a scenic road trip to Lake Natron and discover its unique, otherworldly landscapes. Upon arrival, settle in at Africa Safari Lake Natron, where you can relax and take a refreshing swim in the pool. In the evening, savor a delicious dinner while overlooking the arid yet stunning surroundings of this remarkable destination.
Excursions Hominid Footprints – Ngare Sero Waterfall
During your visit to Lake Natron, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the Engaresero Footprint Site, located just 13 km south of Africa Safari Lake Natron. This remarkable site is home to one of the world’s best-preserved collections of fossilized hominid footprints, discovered in 2008. With over 400 footprints, estimated to be between 5,000 and 19,000 years old, this protected area covers a space slightly larger than a tennis court. Although the exact age and characterization of the footprint-bearing strata, known as the “Footprint Tuff,” remain under study, the site offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient human history.
You’ll also embark on a moderate 2-hour hike to the Ngare Sero Waterfalls. The trail follows the western edge of Lake Natron, leading you through narrow gorges carved by the Ngare Sero River. Accompanied by a knowledgeable Maasai guide from the local cultural center, you’ll have the chance to swim in refreshing slot canyons—a welcome relief after exploring the hot and arid Lake Natron area. The lush surroundings, with wild palms growing along the gorge, add to the beauty of this unique experience.
Excursion Flamingo Lake Natron Walk
Lake Natron, nestled in the Great Rift Valley, serves as the critical mating ground for the endangered lesser flamingo. While the lake’s highly alkaline waters create a harsh environment for most other creatures, these long-legged waterfowl thrive in this unique habitat. The lake’s caustic waters are uninviting to smaller birds, but the flats surrounding the lake provide an ideal setting for the flamingos and other bird species that flourish in this alkali oasis. The best time to witness the flamingos is during their breeding season, which typically begins at the end of the dry season, from September to October. The flamingos start laying their eggs at this time, and the hatching peaks during the early wet season, reaching its climax by December. For a truly immersive experience, take a Flamingo Walk with a Maasai guide who will lead you to the shores of Lake Natron, offering a closer look at these elegant birds in their natural habitat.
After your flamingo adventure, enjoy a scenic road trip to Africa Safari Lake Manyara, where you will spend the night surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the region.

The conservation area also supports populations of hyenas, zebras, and many other species, all thriving within the crater’s unique ecosystem.
After a day of exploring this remarkable wildlife sanctuary, we’ll head to Africa Safari Karatu for an overnight stay. Relax and enjoy the panoramic 180-degree views of the Ngorongoro Highlands, providing a peaceful end to a thrilling day of adventure.
