Kilimanjaro features multiple routes, each one with its own character. The Marangu Route is the most straightforward, offering hut accommodations at every overnight stop. Although it feels like a proper mountain climb, it does not require technical skills. Our expert guides will provide you all the necessary equipment and ensure your safety throughout the whole climb.

The journey to the summit reveals different ecosystems:

The base of the mountain, between 800 and 1600 m, offers a warm, dry climate. These areas are characterized by grasslands and scattered woodlands.

From 1600 to 2700 m, the rainforest takes over. This region is home to dense vegetation and serves as a haven for wildlife.

The alpine zone, situated between 2800 and 4000 m, comes with a dramatic change. Abundant rainfall supports the growth of heather and shrubs, though years of environmental changes have significantly impacted this landscape.

Above 4000 meters, the afro-alpine zone introduces trekkers to a harsher environment. The dry, unstable climate supports only a few endemic plant species, adapted to survive in such conditions. Raptors occasionally soar at these elevations, but animal life is otherwise scarce.

The final stretch to the summit, above 5,000 meters, is a barren expanse where life struggles to thrive. Extreme cold, low oxygen levels, and minimal precipitation create an almost uninhabitable environment.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kilimanjaro National Park is committed to preserving its unique environment. That is why trekkers are encouraged to follow eco-friendly practices.

Reaching the summit is only part of what makes Kilimanjaro so special. The journey to the summit offers a chance to immerse yourself in its natural beauty.
