8 Days Budget Safari Tanzania

The best of northern parks in 8 days’ time! You’ll be visiting Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Lake Natron and Lake Manyara. This budget Safari itinerary offers a unique game drive and walking safari in the Ikoma Wildlife Management Area and overnight in the unique Maasai Boma lodge! This is an upgraded camping safari with comfortable accommodation.

Elephants are plentiful in the Tarangire National Park

Day 1 – Tarangire National Park

Today your budget Safari in Tanzania begins! We pick you up from your hotel in or around Arusha. During the 2,5 hour drive you will enjoy the view of the beautiful nature, landscapes and local communities. We’ll do a full day game drive in Tarangire National Park which is famous for its large numbers of elephants, baobab trees and tree climbing African Pythons. At the end of the day we go to Africa Safari Lake Manyara where you overnight in Safari tent with shared bathrooms. You can finish your first Safari day in style with refreshing dive into the nice swimming pool followed by a sun downer at the bar.

During your 8 Days Budget Safari Tanzania you can see traditional Maasai people with their livestock living in harmony with the wild animals of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Day 2 – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast you will proceed to Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater for a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch) inside this ‘natural zoo’ often described as one of the wonders of the world. It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. With a bit of luck the ‘Big Five’ can be spotted during one game drive only. At the end of the day we head to Ndutu/South Serengeti where we overnight at Africa Safari South Serengeti. The area is famous for the calving season of the Great Migration, an absolute highlight of the annual wildebeest migration.

Day 3 – Serengeti National Park

On the third day we head towards the legendary Serengeti National Park. After a few hours drive descending from the Ngorongoro Highlands we will arrive at the Serengeti gate. While waiting for your guide to finish with the paper work, you can use the time to climb up see the enormous savanna up to the horizon. At the end of the day we arrive at Africa Safari Serengeti Ikoma. Located between Serengeti Seronera, Grumeti and Ikorongo Game Reserves the location is ideal for exploring the Serengeti. It’s the perfect retreat for a relaxing moment watching birdlife or a herd of impala grazing quietly around the camp area or rather just relax while listening to the sounds of the African bush.

Day 4 – Ikoma Wildlife Management Area

The next day we will start the day with a game drive in the Ikoma Wildlife Management Area. This area supports a variety of wildlife across 242 square kilometres of pristine wilderness including herds of elephant, waterbuck, Black and White colobus monkeys, shy leopard and both the Greater and the Lesser Kudu. In the afternoon we will explore the area by foot with a ranger (walking Safari) and you can ask questions about the park’s wildlife, plants and geology. You will learn about the local people living within the Serengeti Eco System. A truly unique experience! You spend another night camping at Africa Safari Serengeti Ikoma.

Wildebeests and Zebras (part of the annual great migration in Tanzania) crossing the Mara river in the Serengeti National Park

Day 5 – Serengeti North

Today we go on another game drive in the northern Serengeti – home to every member of the Big Five. You can ask your guide what you want to discover, every piece of the Serengeti offers something unique. Whether it’s spying on wild dog, watching rhino amble through the brush near Kopjes or losing your breath at the sight of big cats chasing down their prey. We can pass by the Mara river, where thousands of animals of the great migration have to cross this natural hurdle, trying to avoid the deadly Nile crocodiles. Truly a once in a lifetime experience! Towards the late afternoon we will leave this legendary park and overnight at the unique Africa Safari Maasai Boma Lodge. As the accommodation’s name suggests, it is inspired by a traditional Maasai houses.

Day 6 – Lake Natron

After breakfast we will leave Ololosokwan village and head towards Lake Natron. The journey close to the border to Kenya in the remote northern Serengeti-Eco System is a desolate, other-worldly experience. The roads pass through untraveled Maasai land, with small Bomas and big mountains often in view in a wild, cauterized landscape. From June to November at the lake around two million flamingos gather. We overnight at Africa Safari Lake Natron. The lodge has a swimming pool that is embedded in its surrounding landscapes and comes complete with stunning views of neighboring Mount Ol Doinyo Lengai, a still-active volcano. Enjoy the view! From the lodge you can take a 10 minute walk to the lake with your guide.

Day 7 – Lake Natron Waterfalls

In the morning your guide will take you for an adventurous walk to the Ngare Sero Waterfalls (make sure to bring walking shoes). Named after the Ngare Sero River that originates in the Ngorongoro Highlands and descends through the Rift Valley into the Natron basin. It is one of the few sources of fresh water in the area. The river formed a gorge with steep walll through the millennia. In order to reach the waterfalls you will have to cross the river several times, so make sure to bring some appropriate equipment. After lunch you’ll head to the small village of Mto Wa Mbu where you overnight at Africa Safari Lake Manyara Lodge in comfortable Safari Tents.

Day 8 – Lake Manyara National Park

For our last day of Safari we will visit Lake Manyara National Park. At 325 square kilometers, Manyara National Park is certainly small by Tanzanian standards, but don’t let that put you off. It is, quite simply, amazing. Bordered by the dramatic Rift Valley, the rest of the park is a pretty medley of grassy floodplains, enchanting evergreen forest, acacia woodland and twinkling groundwater springs. And of course Lake Manyara itself, a glittering and iridescent alkaline pool that expands and contracts with the seasons. Here you can also find flamingo, but not as many in Lake Natron. In the late afternoon we return to Arusha for the end of your 8 Days Budget Safari Tanzania.
